On December 22, 2021 (Wednesday), the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the main construction of the Cheongna Sky Bridge (Third Link Bridge). The project moved forward after resolving several key issues, including an agreement with LH and the Incheon Urban Development Corporation on project cost-sharing through a project agreement in October 2020, as well as an agreement between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and private investors regarding loss compensation in December 2020. Following these agreements, the project completed technical proposal evaluations and design reflections for Sections 1 and 2 between July and November 2021, leading to the start of full-scale construction. The Cheongna Sky Bridge (Third Link Bridge) will be a six-lane bridge (three lanes in each direction) with a total length of 4.681 kilometers and a width of 30 meters. Among the three bridges connecting Cheongna International City and Yeongjong International City, it will be the only one to include pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths. In addition, the project adopts a design-build proposal bidding method and will feature the world’s tallest 180-meter main tower observatory, waterfront deck paths, and nightscape lighting, creating an experiential and tourism-oriented bridge where citizens can enjoy a variety of activities.
