On February 22, 2024, IFEZ held a groundbreaking ceremony for the first and second phase of the waterfront construction of Songdo International City. The 1-2 phase of the waterfront development project in Songdo International City, which started this time, will be constructed with a total project cost of 225.2 billion won to 1.03 km of the northern waterway connecting Lake 6 of Songdo International City to Lake A-am island, two road bridges, two sidewalk bridges, one floodgate, and dredging of Lake Aamdo in Songdo International City. When the waterfront construction is completed, about 2.4 million tons of seawater will be introduced into the waterway twice a day and the water quality of grades 2 to 3 or higher can be maintained through 15 days of circulation. In addition, the water level of the waterway will be managed at 1 to 1.3 meters based on average sea level, and in the event of torrential rain, about 10 million tons of freshwater capacity will be secured up to 3.5 meters above the planned flood level, which will have disaster prevention capabilities that can withstand 100-year rainfall.
