On Jan. 16, 2024, IFEZ signed a business agreement with Incheon Metropolitan City and the Korea Institute for Basic Science (KBSI) to build an integrated center in the Seoul metropolitan area. The KBSI Metropolitan Integration Center is a project to integrate KBSI's regional centers in the Seoul metropolitan area (Seoul Center, Seoul Western Center, and Chuncheon Center) and build an integrated center in Songdo International City in the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ). The total construction cost is 45.7 billion won, including land, and consists of 40 percent of state funds, 50 percent of local expenses, and 10 percent of the private sector. Design will begin in 2024 and be completed in 2026.
